New car sales are showing improvement. This is a good sign for once.
JUNE 2012 KEY POINTS
TOTAL NEW MOTOR VEHICLE SALES
- The June 2012 trend estimate (91 734) has increased by 0.8% when compared with May 2012.
- Seasonally Adjusted – The June 2012 seasonally adjusted estimate for new motor vehicle sales (91 375) decreased by 0.6% when compared with May 2012.
SALES BY TYPE OF VEHICLE
- When comparing national trend estimates for June 2012 with May 2012, sales of Passenger, Sports utility and Other vehicles have increased by 0.3%, 1.4% and 1.4% respectively.
- Seasonally Adjusted – When comparing seasonally adjusted estimates for June 2012 with May 2012, sales of Passenger vehicles decreased by 0.7%, while Sports utility vehicles increased by 0.6%. Over the same period Other vehicles decreased by 1.9%.
SALES BY STATE
- All eight states and territories have experienced an increase in the trend estimate for new motor vehicle sales when comparing June 2012 with May 2012. The Northern Territory recorded the largest percentage increase (3.1%), followed by the Australian Capital Territory (2.4%) and New South Wales (1.1%).
- In seasonally adjusted terms, sales of new motor vehicles increased in four of the eight states and territories when comparing June 2012 with May 2012. The Australian Capital Territory recorded the largest percentage increase, with 7.2%, followed by South Australia (3.4%) and Tasmania (2.8%). Sales in the Northern Territory and Queensland both decreased by 3.4% over the same period.
