AUSTRALIAN INDUSTRY GROUP-DELOITTE ACCESS ECONOMICS – BUSINESS OUTLOOK (March 2012)
As a result of a request by the writer to the Australian Industry Group, they have provided me with a Deloitte Access Economics Business Outlook – Housing Investment Forecast for Queensland 2010 to 2016 that has some interesting positive reading from a Turf production perspective.
Deloitte Access states that in regards to the projected pickup beginning 2012-13, confidence and population are the keys to a turnaround. It notes that Queensland state population growth is closer to the national average than at any time since the end of 1960’s, which basically is a drop in our normal population growth levels, as Queensland has always been higher than other states with its high levels of interstate migration attraction.
Private Housing Investment
2010-11 | 2011-12 (f) | 2012-13 (f) | 2013-14 (f) | 2014-15 (f) | 2015-16 (f) | |
Constant Price $ mill | 14,050 | 13,994 | 15,498 | 17,464 | 18,491 | 20,206 |
% Change | -13.0 | -0.4 | 10.7 | 12.7 | 5.9 | 9.3 |
At the council meeting I questioned this large increase as it seemed there was no plans in the pipeline for Building and Construction to take effect in 2012-13 is certainly a lack of government funding. The response was that these figures are housing approvals in Queensland. Property development is a private-sector approach and depends on funding availability and demand. From a Turf production perspective we have the initial property development area that utilises turfgrass for erosion control at the start of the project and again turf is utilised at the end of the project with turfgrass being laid on the built housing.
The issue here is that Turf Queensland has been forecasting a lift to the Queensland turf production industry in Spring 2013 that now appears to occur slightly earlier, however the main turf sales will probably occur in 2013 if these forecasts are correct.
Anyway it is fantastic news to finally hear something positive I’m sure you will all agree.
