QTPA Member Alert | Biosecurity Queensland (14/11/2013)

Biosecurity Queensland is continuing to manage a number of responses across Queensland. As part of protecting the State’s cattle industry, a number of properties remain under movement restrictions as a result of bovine Johne’s disease. We are working as quickly as possible to clear these properties so they can return to business as usual.

In addition, we are continuing our response to red witchweed in Mackay with surveillance teams continuing to survey properties for this invasive and potentially destructive weed. Also in Mackay, we are continuing our surveillance for Asian green mussels after a detection last month. Fire Ant restricted area boundaries have been updated to help stop the spread of Fire Ants in South East Queensland. These incidents highlight the need for everyone to be vigilant to protect our state from a broad range of pests and diesases. Remember, if you see something unusual please report it to Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23.

Regards,

Dr Jim Thompson
Chief Biosecurity Officer
Biosecurity Queensland
