Declaration of Gladstone Fire Ant Restricted Area

Changes have been made to the Fire Ant Restricted Area in the Yarwun, Targinnie, Callemondah and Curtis Island areas of Gladstone to help stop the spread of fire ants.

The changes to the Gladstone Fire Ant Restricted Area are in response to a detection of a fire ant nest located just outside of the previous restricted area. This infestation was detected during Biosecurity Queensland’s second round of surveillance in July 2014.

A declaration notice will appear in the Courier Mail and Gladstone Observer on Wednesday 12 November 2014 outlining the area that will now be within the high risk restricted area for fire ants.

Movement control requirements for commercial operators are outlined in the table below.
