QTPA Member Alert | ELECTRICITY TARIFF CHANGES (26/3/2012)

ELECTRICITY TARIFF CHANGES

This preliminary information is for Turf Queensland Members background into activities by the Queensland Competition Authority (QCA) with regards to electricity pricing in Queensland.

The Queensland Competition Authority is currently developing a new system for electricity pricing in Queensland that changes the way customers are charged for electricity.  For business customers, the changes will include the removal of obsolete business tariffs and declining block tariffs, such as tariffs 31, 33 and 37 from the 1st of July 2012.  These regulated tariffs would be replaced by market contracts.

November 2011, the QCA released its Draft Methodology Paper which sets out the authorities preliminary views and proposed approaches to determining the key elements of regulated retail tariffs and prices.

The QCA will finalise the new structure, including new electricity tariffs, by 31st May 2012.
