“IMPORTANT” WEED SPRAY ALERT TO TURF FARMERS

On Monday, 22 July 2013 the ABC 4 Corners presented a programme entitled ‘Chemical Time Bomb’.

The link to this program is below and of interest to all turf producers. It covers the use of a chemical 24D that is used still in 200 different chemical sprays in Australia currently. Apparently this is the same chemical used in Agent Orange. In particular it was the imported product that was high in 24D even though it was present in Australian produced products.

Agriculture and Turf Production in particular was mentioned in the program at approximately 28 minutes in.

It is suggested strongly that turf producers check their Workplace Health and Safety procedures with regards to:

·         Selection and handling of herbicides .

·         Protective clothing and equipment .

·         Spray drift control.

·         Washed down after use.

·         Contact your supplier and check your products.
