DECEMBER 2012 KEY POINTS

TOTAL DWELLING UNITS

  • The trend estimate for total dwellings approved rose 0.5% in December and has risen for three months.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate for total dwellings approved fell 4.4% in December following a rise of 3.4% in the previous month.

PRIVATE SECTOR HOUSES

  • The trend estimate for private sector houses approved fell 0.5% in December and has fallen for three months.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate for private sector houses fell 3.3% in December and has fallen for three months.

PRIVATE SECTOR DWELLINGS EXCLUDING HOUSES

  • The trend estimate for private sector dwellings excluding houses rose 1.8% in December and has risen for 3 months.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate for private sector dwellings excluding houses fell 5.4% in December following a rise of 11.5% in the previous month.

VALUE OF BUILDING APPROVED

  • The trend estimate of the value of total building approved rose 0.9% in December after falling for five months. The value of residential building rose 0.1% following a fall of 0.2% in the previous month. The value of non-residential building rose 2.3% after falling for six months.
  • The seasonally adjusted estimate of the value of total building approved fell 1.9% in December and has fallen for three months. The value of residential building fell 3.0% following a rise of 3.7% in the previous month. The value of non-residential building rose 0.1% following a fall of 10.0% in the previous month.
